What are the best settings for your GoPro for action sports, and for aerial filming? (DJI Phantom 2 etc.)

4k, 2.7k, 4:3, 1080 there are lots of options on the latest top of the range GoPro, which raises questions.. what does GoPro's 'SuperView' actually do to the image? Is 4k always best?

Here is an examples of every resolution settings, all in glorious 4K.

Hopefully if you use your GoPro for action sports like mountain biking, surfing, kite surf etc. Or if you use your GoPro on a quadcopter, then there will be some useful information in here for you.

NOTE 1- These recommendations are for best settings/resolution for people who know a bit about editing, and want to get the best out of this plucky little action camera.
If you want minimal fuss for your quick edit, then these suggestions may not be for you.
In that case perhaps a simple 1080p is more up your street.

Note 2 - I work in PAL, so I recommend working in 25p, but of course simply choose NTSC 30p or cinematic 24p if that suits your area/taste.

Note 3 - I chose the rather dull shot of the two bikes in my back garden because the round wheels of the bikes really help show the distortion some of these resolution options, and of course you can see the different FOV as more or less of the ground and back wall is cropped out.
